Entering his sixth season as an assistant coach with the Rams is Kris Kann.
Kann came to Shepherd from Mansfield University where he served as pitching coach in 2002 and 2003.
The team's pitching coach, Kann oversees the day-to-day operations of the pitching staff. He also coordinates team travel plans and all camps and clinics.
Kann is also responsible for the total maintenance of Fairfax Field. Additionally, he is in charge of the off-season weight and conditioning program and organizes the fall fund-raising efforts. He also serves as coordinator of outdoor athletic facilities at Shepherd.
In 2008 Kann's prize pupil, Matt McCarty, became the first Ram pitcher since Ty Hart in 1997 to earn All-American honors.
In 2006 Ram pitcher Scott McCormick earned All-Region honors under Kann's tutelage.
Under Kann's guidance the Ram pitching staff finished second in the WVIAC with a 4.52 team earned run average in 2004. In addition, Ram starter Scott Koscielniak earned First Team All-WVIAC and Second Team North Atlantic All-Region honors with an 8-2 overall mark, while reliever Charlie Drummond finished the season tied for 12th nationally in saves with eight in 10 appearances.
Kann, a 2002 graduate of Mansfield, was a three-year letterwinner as a pitcher for the Mountaineers from 1997-99. He earned All-PSAC honors in 1999 and was drafted in the 11th round by the Houston Astros.
Kann and his wife, Erica, a 2006 Shepherd graduate, reside in Martinsburg with their daughter, Jozelyn.
